Path to Belong

What does it mean to belong to The Table Church?

Here are some simple steps to take if you are interested in calling The Table your church home.

1. Visit

Take as much time as you need to get familiar with our services, our team, and our unique way of gathering as a church. We understand that a shift from rows of chairs to tables and conversations can take some time to get used to, but we feel it is a great first step in building relationships.

2. Explore

As you interact with our church, talk to people about why they come to The Table. Feel free to check out our online resources to get a better sense of our beliefs, mission, vision, values, etc.

3. Eat & Ask

As you navigate The Table be curious. You can reach out to us set up a meeting with someone from our pastoral team. We would love to take you out for a coffee or lunch to have a conversation where you can ask all your questions and get responses from church leaders.

4. Decide

If you feel as though The Table is the right place for you, you can let us know so as a church we can celebrate.

5. Celebrate

When an individual or family joins our church, we like to take a few moments to acknowledge and pray over them as a way to welcome and celebrate what God is up to. Don’t worry, you won’t have to say anything unless you want to, but this is way in which our church can commit to you as a brother or sister in Christ seeking God and relationships in our community.

6. Evaluate

The Table has a tendency to bring people in who have been hurt, asking deep questions, or disillusioned with church altogether. We want you to have a health relationship to the body of Christ. Like the human body, sometimes we need rest, other times we need motion, other times we need healing, etc. So, we encourage you to evaluate where you are without feeling any pressure to get involved right away. Further, if you are in a good season of your faith where you are ready to participate in serving, that is great too!

7. Partcipate

This looks like exploring the various ministries at The Table and getting involved. We encourage serving in different areas as you explore to get a holistic picture of how our church operates and to meet people who can share with you what serving looks like in each respective area.
If you have professed faith in Christ and have been baptized, you belong to the ‘global church.’ In the New Testament, we discover that the global church is also intentionally local, whereby followers of Jesus gather in different ways to worship God and be together.

When trying to capture an image of what it means to be a part of the church, Paul uses the language of ‘member.’ However, Paul does not mean ‘member to a club.’ Rather, he uses the metaphor of a body with members (limbs, ligaments, etc.) to emphasize that everyone has a place and purpose in the church. Thus ‘membership’ is more about belonging, participation, and growth while being devoted to a local church joining God in his work a particular place.
