Gospel of Mark 8:22-25
Last week, Mark led us through a text about understanding Jesus. One of the things he mentioned is so true: We must be attentive, and we must be painfully honest when we read the Scriptures. “There is a story competing for your heart. This story tells you that to be truly alive as a human, you just need to dig deep. Embrace your true identity. Be skeptical of other stories that try to tell you who you really are. Stand firm in what you believe because others are wrong and you are right.” This helps us launch into our next text, Mark 8:22-26, where Jesus heals a blind man. There are multiple layers that Mark’s Gospel wants us to see about Jesus and discipleship with this story. Interestingly, this miracle happens in two stages, Jesus touches the man, and he then partially sees. After Jesus touches him again, he can see clearly. Why is this, and what in the world does it have to do with you!? Everything. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday!
